The Sea Scouts are offering sailing lessons for teenage youth and adults on Lake Union.

This 12 hour introductorary program welcomes participation by youth ages 14 and up as well as adults of all skill levels.  The program kicks off with a four hour shore school followed by a minimum of 8 hours of operating the boats afloat.  NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED!!!!

The first of three shore school opportunities will be held on March 1st, with subsequent classes starting April 12 and May 10.  Sailing theory and boating skills are put into practice with on the water experience under careful supervision.  During the summertime, open sailing and the Lake Union Duck Dodge Race on Tuesday evenings are included.  In September, the Fall Rendezvous and BBQ caps the summer season.  The schedule is below.

We use Soling sailboats which are an international class of keel-boat, historically used for Olympic sailing competition from 1972 to 2000.  The Soling's lively performance makes it an excellent teaching boat. It's responsive enough to provide instant feedback, but stable enough to avoid capsizing. All boats are US Power Squadron Boat Safety Certified and all lifejackets and safety gear are provided.  Usually, we sail with three participants and one instructor per boat.
